1. Aveiro Dietary Supplement At the University of Aveiro, scientists are using mushroom by-products to develop a food supplement that reduces blood cholesterol levels. The research, led by Filipe Gomes from the UA Department of Chemistry, aspires to recover bioactive compounds such as titin, beta-glucans and statins, found in unused mushrooms and production waste. 2. Coimbra Church Restoration The restoration work on the Church of São João de Almedina in Coimbra, worth an investment of over EUR1.5 million within the scope of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), is expected to be finalised by the middle of next year. Following these interventions, this monument which is integrated into the Machado de Castro National Museum, will reopen to the public after almost two centuries. 3. Leiria Youth Festival The 30th edition of the Leiria Youth Festival, taking place from 17 April to 28 June, is dedicated to the theme of multiculturalism and will feature the participation of two dozen schools and five youth theatre groups. This event, which aligns with the Municipal Education Project for the school year, invites the public to reflect on the diversity of perspectives, experiences, and origins that enrich the territory. 4. Lisbon Digital Guide “Let s Talk About Disinformation”has been released by the Portuguese Order of Psychologists (OPP) to support parents, teachers, and educators in helping children and young people navigate digital platforms. Tis guide comes as estimates from the OPP indicate that around 50 percent of students aged 15 could not distinguish facts from opinions, and people over 65 share seven times more misinformation than young adults. 5. Santiago do Cacém, Lagoon Opening Tis year, the Santo André Lagoon was opened to the sea earlier than expected, mainly due to the high water level caused by the rains of the last few weeks.Te operation, which involved local fsherman and the community with the support of the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF) and the collaboration of the Port Authority of Sines, aims to clean the water of the lagoon and allow fsh species to enter. 6. Évora Culture Capital Te European Capital of Culture (CEC) Évora 2027, under the reprogramming of the Recovery and Resillience Plan (RRP), will allocate EUR25 million to the recovery of heritage. According to Minister of Culture Dalila Rodrigues, part of this funding will be applied to rehabilitation works at the Monastery of São Bento de Cástris, which will be the future headquarters of the management association of CEC Évora 2027. 7. Beja Medical Examinations In Beja, the José Joaquim Fernandes Hospital performed 4,745 examinations in the 1st year with magnetic resonance imaging, reducing the number of diagnoses carried out abroad to 1,743. Funchal, Madeira Direct Flights TAP has announced a new air route with direct fights between Faro and Funchal, operating twice a week with an Embraer 190 Aircraft and a capacity for 106 passengers.Te new direct air connection will run from 2 June to 11 September, on Mondays and Tursdays, with a total of 30 frequencies planned, corresponding to an ofer of 3,180 seats in each direction of travel. 9.
